W.W.W. - WHO? WHAT? WHY?

WHO IS GHOUL?

On the most pathetic level of reality, Ghoul is also known under the alias Dejan Ognjanovic.

Dejan Ognjanovic is born in Nis, Serbia, in 1973.

He worked as a Teaching Assistant in American Literature at the English Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Nis, Serbia (1999-2009). Got his MA in 2009. for the thesis: 'Gothic Motifs in the Works of E. A. Poe'. Lost his job after a personal clash with his mentor and professor.

Published literary and film essays and criticism in various Serbian magazines.

In Serbia he has published 6 books: one novel, In Vivo (published as Naživo); two studies: Faustian Screen: The Devil in Cinema (Faustovski ekran, 2006) and In the Hills, the Horrors: Serbian Horror Film (U brdima, horori, 2007) and one collection of essays about horror genre in literature and film – A Study in Terror (Studija strave, 2008). He signed two books as an editor: he edited, partially translated and annotated the first edition of H. P. Lovecraft's best stories in Serbian (Nekronomikon, 2008.); plus, he co-edited (with Ivan Velisavljević) The New Frames (Novi Kadrovi, 2008), a collection of essays by young Serbian critics about neglected trends in Serbian cinema.

In English, he wrote nearly 50 film reviews for the site Kung Fu Cult Cinema (www.kfccinema.com), now sadly defunct. His book and film reviews can still be found at the sites Beyond Hollywood (www.beyondhollywood.com), Unrated (www.unrated.co.uk) and Quiet Earth (http://www.quietearth.us).

Dejan Ognjanovic is currently a PhD candidate at the Belgrade's Faculty of Philology with a thesis "Historical Poetics of Horror Genre in Anglo-American Literature".

Dejan Ognjanovic is currently unemployed because he has a big mouth and takes no shit from anyone.

WHAT IS 'THE TEMPLE OF GHOUL'?

'THE TEMPLE OF GHOUL' is a blog in which the entity publicly known as "Dejan Ognjanovic" will publish its reviews, essays, thoughts and images which may be of interest to the English-speaking audience. More or less coherent crticisms and ramblings are already available in Serbian, here; now, we're spreding the Cult of Ghoul wider.

WHY IS THERE 'THE TEMPLE OF GHOUL'?

The main aim is to make available my reviews and essays written in English to a wider, English-reading audience. It is a natural outgrowth of my already functioning blog in Serbian.
